We welcome you to have a peek into our classroom as we set off on the adventure of being fifth graders this year. This is a classroom blog that will include contributions from students and teacher informing others about what we are doing in our classroom. We hope you will comment on our posts so that we may engage in productive discourse.

The Giraffe Project
The 4th and 5th
graders have been working on a special project called the Giraffe Project. In
the project we have been learning about human giraffes. You’re probably
wondering what a human giraffe is, so we will explain . A human giraffe is
someone who sticks there neck out for others and their community, they take
helpful action when they see a problem. The reason their teaching us this is so
we can become a human giraffe ourselves and stick up for the things we believe
are fair and right. Some of the human giraffes we have read about include, The
Earth Defenders and Hazel Wolf. The
Earth Defenders are a good example because when they saw a problem in their
community they took helpful action by cleaning up their streets when they were
full of garbage and junk. Another example is Hazel Wolf. She is a good example
because when people weren’t taking care of the plants and animals she cared
about. She never stopped trying even after she went to jail for protesting for
what she believed in.
